IHS Workshop on Political Spirituality and Political Theology in the Novohispanic Insurgency Posted to YouTube

On April 10, I had the opportunity to workshop an essay on Political Spirituality and Political Theology with the University of Texas at Austin’s Institute for Historical Studies. Drs. Virginia Garrard and Madeline McMahon were generous with their responses and feedback, and a great discussion took place with several questions from attendees.

I am grateful to Professor Jorge Cañizares-Esguerra, the Director of the IHS, for the opportunity to present at the workshop, as well as for recording the workshop session and posting it to the Institute’s You Tube channel.

Is this thing on?

What should any reader of this blog — beside myself — expect to see in this blog? Among other things an intrepid reader might find:

  • impressions of research venues that I visit and the artifacts I come across,

  • items of interest that might or might not make it into a research project of my own, including images, sound files, textual snippets and such,

  • the occasional research note,

  • things left on the cutting room floor, as it were,

  • theoretical or methodological soundings associated with my research or my intellectual interests,

  • updates on events, talks, or conferences of interest to me and possibly other colleagues.

What a reader is less likely to find on this blog are instant writings about politics, culture, or current events in the world at large. It’s not that I don’t care about these matters; I just want this to be a venue focused on matters associated with research, writing, and academic life.

With those preliminaries aside, welcome. And feel free to drop a line whenever comments are open on a post.
